THE DREADED FRESHMAN 15
Ah, the Freshman 15. The "Freshman 15" represents an arbitrary 15 pounds students are expected to gain during their first year at college. While it's generally proven to be a myth, the Freshman 15 serves as a warning to students entering college that packing on the pounds in colleges is easier than it seems.
Sometimes the best late-night study break is grabbing a milkshake from Steak & Shake, or hitting up the nearest Krispy Kreme at midnight for a warm glazed donut. Some days it might seem convenient to grab a pastry from Starbucks for breakfast on the way to class. Not to mention exorbitant weekend alcohol consumption, lack of sleep, and being pressed for time during the busy school days. As the college workload kicks in, working out might seem out of the question.
However, freshman need guidance in learning how to avoid having these unhealthy behaviors become habit. Schools can design intervention programs to educate their students about combatting the "freshman 15" and fat-based weight gain in general.
